CorningWare Ryku

CorningWare Ryku is contemporary Asian themed stoneware bakeware with a red China interior and black exterior.  It's available in 7 ounce ramekins, a 2 or 3 quart covered casserole, a red three piece bowl set, a 9 X 13 baking dish, or as a 6 piece set. The CorningWare Ryku design has a 2 tone glaze. The high gloss red glaze on the interior makes for easy cleaning; the black matte finish on the outside completes the line's characteristic look. This stoneware goes easily from oven-to-table and the ramekins can be used as your dinnerware too. CorningWare Ryku is safe in the microwave, refrigerator and freezer.

CorningWare bakeware was first introduced in 1958 and was made of a glass-ceramic material.  In the 1990's World Kitchen purchased the brand and has since switched to ceramic stoneware production.  It's enabled the company to be more creative with their colors and styles.

DishwasherSafe.gifCorningWare Ryku items can be hand washed with a nonabrasive soap, or placed in your dishwasher. Do not use on your stovetop, under a broiler or griller, or in any other direct heating source such as an open flame. Be sure not to soak the stoneware for a long time before heating or freezing as it can cause cracking. Do not add a liquid to the stoneware when it is hot or place the hot stoneware on a wet surface. When handled properly CorningWare Ryku is versatile, arresting in appearance, and able to withstand temperatures from oven to freezer.

CorningwareRyku.jpgAmazon's reviewers are few in number but they rate this stoneware bakeware very highly. The sets and separates overall receive mostly five stars, with one four star exception. The 2 quart square casserole received all five star reviews, one says, "I purchased several items in this line as gifts and I found them to be sturdy, substantial looking casseroles.  I love the color -- black with red (the red is a darker color leaning toward brick).  Very striking."

The three star reviewer of the baking dish thought people should know it cannot be used for lasagna, "This is a beautiful casserole dish; however, I wanted one for lasagna. The description fails to list that it has sloping sides.  Sloping sides are not functional for removing lasagna intact.  I kept it because it is so beautiful and my other CorningWare are great after 25 years (hope this lasts as well since corning was recently sold to another company).  I will continue to look for a great looking lasagna dish.  Only 3 stars for lacking a complete description."

About Corningware Cookware

Corningware now makes less "cookware" than they used to. The glass Visions cookware is still available in some places, but ever since World Kitchens, LLC bought Corningware in the late 90's, they reconfigured the products for stoneware, which cannot be used on top of the stove. Over the last couple of years they have severely cut back on their active product lines.
